Your radio will be sent to you in legal receive only mode. You can get the required level ham license to activate the transmit mode - or you can have a ham with the required level of license operate it for you. Or you may just store it away in its EMP proof container for use should there occur some great catastrophe.

That is why it is important to be on a net. But, if you have that other significant person that you HAVE to be able to reach - such as a child or parent in another part of the state - then this is the answer for you.
